School health units link to free health check follow-up: Ministry - ANTARA News Kalimantan Selatan

August 29, 2026

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Fajar Riza Ul Haq said that the school health unit (UKS) can connect schools with community health centers (puskesmas) that implement the Free Health Check-up (CKG) program.

"How we try to optimize the role of UKS, because UKS is a kind of anchor in schools that connects with puskesmas," he said in a written statement here on Saturday.

This year, he said, the CKG program for school-age children has been aimed not to stop at examinations, but to continue with follow-up treatment.

This step would integrate health checks with the education environment and support healthy living habits from an early age.

"We also see that optimizing UKS can ensure the implementation of CKG runs well, because schools need a person in charge," Ul Haq added.

He added that health check results can then be followed up through habit-forming practices and a school environment that supports healthy living behavior.

"This ultimately improves our children's motivation to take part in learning," he said.

He said this correlation is reflected, among others, at state junior high school SMP 5 Bogor, which has a track record of building a culture of health. The school once won first place in the West Java Provincial Healthy School Competition.

Several habits that have long been practiced at the school include Segar (fitness exercise), Markisa (let's have breakfast), and Cermin Sehatku (my healthy mirror).

These are in line with the "Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children" Movement, familiarizing students with exercise, consuming nutritious food based, and monitoring their own physical growth.

This healthy culture is reinforced through the involvement of 18 student ambassadors in various roles, including Stunting Prevention Ambassador, Health Ambassador, and Anti-Smoking Youth Ambassador.

Other roles are Anti-Bullying Ambassador, Child-Friendly School Ambassador, and peer mentoring.
