Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is actively exploring options to expand the placement of skilled migrant workers to the Slovak Republic, focusing on key sectors including manufacturing, hospitality, and elderly care.

The initiative was highlighted following a bilateral meeting between Indonesian Protection of Migrant Workers (P2MI) Deputy Minister Christina Aryani and Slovak Ambassador to Indonesia Tomáš Ferko.

According to an official ministry statement released in Jakarta on Wednesday, the meeting marks an initial step to institutionalize employment cooperation as Slovakia faces growing demand for qualified foreign labor.

"The P2MI Ministry views Slovakia as a key market to develop, aligning with the country's rising need for skilled labor," Aryani said.

Although annual placements of Indonesian workers in Slovakia currently remain below 1,000, she pointed to a consistent upward trend.

Labor demand in the Central European nation is primarily driven by the manufacturing sector, supported by major international automotive manufacturers operating production facilities in the country, including Volkswagen, Kia, and Volvo.

To address these requirements, Aryani highlighted Indonesia's "Go Global Vocational School" program, which is designed to equip workers with vocational skills, international certifications, and targeted job readiness.

"We see this program as highly relevant in responding to labor demands in Slovakia," she said.

"Indonesia is ready to supply competent caregivers to meet the needs of nursing homes and healthcare services. I also shared our ongoing labor collaboration with Germany as an example of good practice that can be adapted with Slovakia," Aryani said.

Following the meeting, the Slovak government plans to consult relevant ministries and domestic stakeholders to evaluate formalizing future labor cooperation frameworks.

Both the Indonesian and Slovak governments aim to ensure future placements are safe, legal, and aligned with market demands.
